They were visited by Sergeant Probert from the Home Guard who spent the day leading them through a huge range of information and activities. The children started by acting out how European politics and the First World War contributed to the outbreak of World War II. They reviewed major events from the conflict including Dunkirk and the Blitz. They discussed air raid precautions and practised fighting incendiary devices using a stirrup pump. Finally, they were persuaded to join the Home Guard and conducted a rank and file drill. All agreed the day was thoroughly enjoyable and they also learnt lots!
