The children have been getting involved with Maths Spotlight Challenges this week!
The Year 2 children searched for and created patterns in the woodland! They worked in groups to find leaves, sticks and and anything they could find more than 1 of, in order to create their desired pattern. They also searched for a location where their pattern would be able to be placed and clearly seen. Well done year 2, your patterns look great!
In Games the Year 2 children also focused on scoring goals and adding the numbers as a team.
The Year 6 students have been looking at images from both the natural and man made world, to see what Maths that can “Spot”. Working collaboratively students discussed what Maths they think and noticed were in the images and then shared ideas about what else they wondered about the images.
Some of our Year 6 children also chose the topic of 3D/2D shapes to begin creating a PowerPoint presentation. These presentations will follow the rules we have established to create useful and appropriate PowerPoints.
Year 4 have been learning about area. They have made “Ribbon Squares” and are now moving on to investigating how the area of a shape is affected if the length of the side is doubled.
The children were then set the task of finding out the area of the tennis court. Following their learning this week, the children identified that they would need to find the length and the width in order to find the area. They undertook their challenge with great energy for a cold Friday morning and following some amazing collaboration, they were able to come up with the answer!
Our Year 7 students have been working in groups to find out “Which Carpet is the Cheapest”. They have applied there knowledge of area, perimeter and money calculations in solving the problem. Some great team work.
Our Year 5 pupils were read the story of the Tangram Cat. They then had to use the 2D shapes that fit together to make the cat, to make some more pictures of the animals or objects from the story. Some great creations.
