Throughout the day visiting staff, Mr Barnett & Mrs Page discussed the integration of PSB within sport and our special guest Russell Earnshaw (Rusty) from The Magic Academy delivered some inspiring practical coaching to some of our Year 5 & 6 pupils.
Sports Round Up & Team of the Week
It’s the last week of the first half of term and there were plenty of fixtures with the U13A starting their 7s preparation against Belmont, Brambletye and Great Ballard and the rest of the boys matches against Micklefield. The U13 and U11A netball team had a fixture against Farlington and the U11 B against Farlington, St Edmunds and Cottesmore.
On Wednesday the Year 2 children got themselves match ready for their upcoming fixture vs Barrow Hills on Monday 6th March! The pupils worked hard on finding space and shooting up and over the defenders. Team spirit was excellent throughout and congratulations to the yellow team for the three game unbeaten streak.
It was fantastic to see the pupils so motivated to improve their skills and show a super positive attitude to towards team mates.Mr Barnett, Director of Sport
On Tuesday, during Year 5 PE, the students created their own fitness workout as part of their health and fitness module. They performed their workouts to the class and safe to say that everyone worked very hard and created superb workouts.
A round up of the boys’ matches…
- The U13 rugby team had 3 schools turn up to play their first 7 a side fixture this week which were Belmont, Brambletye and Great Ballard. Outstanding team effort today. All of the boys demonstrated an excellent attitude; humble in victory, resilient in defeat and competitive throughout with Harley standing out with being a threat with ball in hand. It has been a very positive season for rugby and good luck with the U13 7s team at Belmont tournament today!
- The U11 had a gritty performance against a strong team. Tristan physical in the contact led the team in defence.
- The U11 Bs performed very well when we had the ball, making strong runs at times. Were more aggressive in the second half but need to work harder at making stronger tackles with Will standing out with great running with the ball.
- The U10s had their best overall team performance this season. Strong tackling, excellent rucking and good strong running. the perfect way to end the season with Oliver with a standout performance in defence with excellent tackling.
- Finally the U9/8 mixed team had 2 really good games with lots of tries being scored with Archie running great with the ball and Faheem with excellent dodging.
And for the girls….
- The U13 netball team had a great game to end the season. They defended well and made some wonderful play down the court with superb effort by all but with a mention to Eli for great attacking play on the court.
- The U11 A team hosted Farlington and had a close game against them. Their movement to create space improved as the game progressed and passes became more accurate going hand to hand and great defence plays from Olivia.
- The U11 B team hosted Farlington, St Edmunds and Cottesmore. The girls showed great teamwork and positivity, some great defending and they all worked hard on their footwork with Holly standing out with her movement and great shooting.
- The U8/9 girls had their preseason football session on Thursday with Mr Blick as the girls will be moving to football next term.
- Finally, we would like to wish the U11 team good luck at their IAPS tournament up in Ipswich today. Go smash it!!!
Outside school, Niamh took on West Ham in footie! It was a 1-1 score line. As Niamh played up an age, it was great experience with a bigger pitch and 4-4-2 formation. She played in defence and held her own. Well done Niamh ⚽
