All smiles again here and for a very good reason! Horsham Hockey Club U10 girls came out on top of a very closely fought Ron Easton Finals tournament on Sunday, to be crowned U10 Sussex Girls champions.
Olivia, Aurelie, Anaya and Becca, all representing Horsham, played brilliantly against Brighton HC and two teams from East Grinstead HC. Having lost their first game against Brighton, they went on to draw against the first East Grinstead team and beat the second.
Drawing with East Grinstead in second place both on points and goal difference meant the girls headed into nail bitingly tense penalty shuffles; a one on one with the keeper, with ten seconds to score a goal. All three Horsham girls scored, with both Olivia and Becca on target to help take the girls through to the final.
Playing against Brighton for the fourth time in two weekends, they were pretty evenly matched. Aurelie was solid in defence, Anaya and Becca worked hard in midfield, Olivia kept their defenders busy around the goal, but the game ended in a 0-0 draw. So, back to the dreaded penalty shuffles… with some amazing goalkeeping and a great goal from Becca, Horsham HC U10 girls were crowned champions and awarded the trophy.
