On Tuesday, the sun was finally out and ten Year 6 pupils headed to Barrow Hills to compete in a Pentathlon (150m, 600m, cricket ball throw, hurdles and Long Jump.) All of the pupils worked hard throughout and completed all five events. Both teams showed great team spirit and really supported each other in all the events. Well done all who participated.

The sun was out on Wednesday to make it a great afternoon for cricket. A round up of the matches:

  • The U13As went to Chiddingfold CC to play Barrow Hills. Barrow Hills batted first and had a very strong line up. We contained them really well with Rosie and Eleanor were the pick of the bowlers. Freddie and Harley got us off to a good start but wickets tumbled quickly and we fell short of the total.
  • The U13Bs were at home on the top fields against Barrow Hills in a hardball fixture. Barrow Hills batted first and posted a score of 84 with Niamh getting 3 wickets when she was bowling. Then Pennthorpe batted and they had a good run chase but they just fell short.
  • The U13Cs travelled away to Barrow Hills, having a great game of pairs cricket from both sides, with great batting and bowling from everyone in the team with Jamie standing out. The Colts As were down at King George’s to playing Barrow Hills. Barrow Hills set a total of 136 when they batted but there was some good bowling all round from Pennthorpe. There was a strong chase from Pennthorpe but they just fell short of the 136 set by Barrow Hills.
  • The Girls Colts A went to Lancing prep for a pairs game. Again it was a very close game with Lancing winning the game on the last bowl of the game with a 6.
  • The Colts Bs travelled to Barrow Hills. Having won the toss Pennthorpe decided to bowl first. Some excellent bowling from the start from Will, Zahira and Romilly set the pace with Will getting a wicket in his first over. As the overs ticked over, AJ stood out in the field with getting 3 wickets and a run out and also Sam, who got brought into the team last minute, taking the last wicket of the innings. Then Pennthorpe team batted well, with Aryan and AJ having a strong start. Pennthorpe chased Barrow Hills total within 5 overs with AJ not out.
  • The Girls Colts B went to Aldro. Pennthorpe put up a superb batting performance, with great communication and big hitting from Maddie. It was then out turn to field. We went from strength to strength, with a great catch from Isabel and super accurate bowling from Holly and Harriet. Well done team!
  • Both Colts C and D were at home on the astro, with both games being really close with Colts C winning their game and Colts D coming up short.
  • The U8/9s all had close games against Barrow Hills home and away. There were some good batting and bowling on display throughout the matches being played and was a great afternoon of matches.

On Thursday selected athletes from Year 4 competed in the annual Dorset House Track Athletics event. Pennthorpe competed in hurdles, 75m, 200m, 600m and 4 x 50m relay. A huge congratulations to all our children who represented Pennthorpe with energy and enthusiasm. Special mention to Bella and Freddie who ran their first ever hurdles event, and Freddie made the final!
