With the Performing Arts Studio acting as the back drop for our annual Poetry Competition for Reception to Year 4 children and Pennthorpe’s Public Speaking Competition for Year 5, Year 6 and Year 7, the children relished the opportunity to share their pieces with their audience.

The morning began with the Reception, Year 1, Year 2, Year 3 and Year 4 finalists. Taking centre stage, quite literally, each child delivered their poems with confidence and projected beautifully. Supported by a large number of family and friends, this was very much an occasion to celebrate each finalist. The afternoon session swiftly followed with Year 5 beginning the Public Speaking Competition, the standard was set and it was exceptionally high. With extracts chosen by Mrs Evans, for each child, that ranged from the whimsical Harry Potter to the tongue-twisting BFG and some individually created pieces inspired by magical powers, each child tackled their time to shine with maturity, conviction and an abundance of confidence.

Both Mrs Waller and Mr Marler led the feedback for each participant during the course of the day; offering a critique that was both constructive and positive for each child, and rightly so – each and every child was exceptional and should be very proud of themselves!

A huge congratulations to our Poetry Competition Finalists; Aleix, Annabelle, Zena and Matthew in Reception; Camelia, Isla, James and Jemima in Year 1; Niamh, Quiton, Milla and Lois in Year 2; Theo, Peyton, Frankie and Oliver in Year 3; Charlie, Faheem, Sammy and Harry in Year 4.

Well done to Ananya, Aurelie, AJ and William in Year 5, Bertie, Tilda, Romilly and Zahira in Year 6 and Henry P, Johnny, Oliver P and Freya from Year 7 for your enthusiasm and for bringing the stories you read to life so beautifully.
