đ A round up of the boysâ matchesâŚ
- Although Year 5 were unable to get a game in this week, there was still plenty of rugby going on. Wednesday we welcomed Dorset House for matches against both 1st and 2nds, whilst Y6 travelled away. The 1sts had a slow start, but grew into the game superbly. The whole team came together and did themselves proud, scoring some lovely team tries that lead to a deserved victory. Johnny displayed fantastic resilience, constantly tackling and winning his 1v1 battles.
- The 2nds saw out a close game to also get the win, lead by Felix dominating the ruck and consistently getting over the gain line. Again, the whole team showed great spirit by working together in both attack and defence, staying strong throughout. The 3rds faced a different opponent in St Edmunds, who were quick off the mark and earnt themselves a flurry of early tries before Pennthorpe settled into the game and became very competitive.
- The U11s gave a valiant effort, but faced a well organised Dorset House team who were hard to break down. Callum fought hard with good strength and drive, showing his determination throughout.
- Thursday was again home and away fixtures with Dorset House – the U9s travelling away for their contact match. Both teams lost by small margins, but were strong going forwards and showed some excellent offloading. Edward held strong in defence, displaying his superb tackling technique and putting in important challenges.
- The U8s stayed at home for their tag rugby match against a competitive Dorset House team – both teams put their training into practice and were able to score some well worked team tries. Fred ran well with the ball, successfully dodging numerous challenges, whilst Michael demonstrated some great skill development and his usual excellent levels of enthusiasm despite the cold!
đ And the girlâs matches:
- Year 5 and 6 participated in a small, 5 game festival against each other and Dorset House, collaborating well and allowing Year 6 to try their hand at team leadership – Lara in particular excelled in captaining her side, offering support and encouragement to her younger teammates. The girls rotated their positions after each match, getting stuck in to each new challenge that offered. Bella remained determined and positive throughout all her games, demonstrating a strong work ethic to keep her team competitive.
- The 1sts faced a cold and windy court, but the girls worked hard from start to finish. A positive first fixture back after the Christmas holidays, the team lead for the majority of the game before unfortunately conceding two goals in the final minutes that allowed Dorset House to take the win. Eli took on feedback and successfully applied it to her defensive game play, contributing to some great passages of play.
- The 2nds weren’t so lucky, and faced some big hurdles against a well drilled Dorset House team, ultimately being outplayed in all positions. Maddie gave a confident, vocal performance in attempt to rally her team, and made important decisive movements that lead to some good Pennthorpe goals.
- Years 3 & 4 had a successful afternoon playing lots of netball, scoring some good goals and working well together. Ayla created some good attacking play, using intelligent movement and snatching some strong interceptions, whilst Ella P showed superb determination in the chilly conditions and was continuously involved in game play.
Next week holds another full week of fixtures, plus some extra additions – fingers crossed it warms up!
