đ A round up of the boysâ matchesâŚ
- The 1sts rugby team had contrasting results in their two games, fighting their way back from being 10-0 down against Cottesmore to level the score at the final whistle. In the second game the team fought hard against some enormous opposition but struggled to get a foothold in the game despite a superb effort. Henry showed incredible resilience against his huge opposition number, never shying away from a challenge.
- The 2nds and 3rds travelled away for a great afternoon at St Edmunds, with some excellent rugby on show. Both teams did the school proud, with the 2nds coming top of their group before being knocked out in the semi-finals and placing 4th overall. Ethan excelled in making strong direct runs, finding the gaps in opposition defence that led to some well worked tries. Hugo offered excellent support play and work rate throughout the tournament.
- At home, the U11s had their best game of the season so far in a close battle that saw them clinch victory with the last play of the game. Hayden showed his progression when making strong drives, supporting his teammates in the ruck and always being available for offloads, ensuring the game was kept a guessing game til the very end.
- U10 As faced strong opposition but grew into the game, working well as a team and improving their rucks and tackles as time went on. James M gave a strong defensive display, with tenacious rucking and determination. U10 Bs were able to narrow their first half deficit of 7-2 back to 12-9 after a concerted, focused second half effort that saw Patrick dig deep with some determined and direct runs, making good decisions and showing superb teamwork to get Pennthorpe back in the game.
- U9s travelled away to Longacre for a tale of two matches – the Bs having a tough afternoon, struggling to come together and work as a team, whilst the As had a more promising game that enabled them to demonstrate their skill progression since the start of the season. Timmy had a new found confidence in his tackling, committing to each challenge and making the difference.
- U8s faced Longacre at home for two brilliant games of tag rugby, both teams also showing their development. Bryn was full of energy for the Bs, scoring plenty of tries and stopping opposition runs, giving Pennthorpe the slight edge they needed to come away victorious. Meanwhile the As played a fantastically competitive and evenly matched fixture, both teams tagging superbly and scoring some great tries. Jack had a fantastic game showing his fancy footwork as he glided through Longacre defences, offloading accurately when he needed and spurring on his teammates.
đ And the girlâs matches:
- It was a busy day at home for the netball squads this week, with teams from Hurst, St Hillary’s and Great Ballard all visiting. All Colts teams played in a triangular with Hurst and St Hilary’s, each winning one fixture. Anaya contributed to some lovely attacking play with her direct drives and movement off the ball which led to some good goals, whilst both Maisie and Katie defended well and created space with their intelligent movement around the pitch.
- The 2nds also played a triangular, this time against Great Ballard and a strong Hurst team. Whilst they struggled with making strong passes and shooting, there was significant improvement when claiming the ball and creating space, as demonstrated superbly by Holly. A common theme this week, the 1sts also played a very tight game which they led and trailed throughout before coming up with the winning goal in the final minutes. Harriet worked tirelessly, determined to do the best for the squad in what was very much a whole team performance from defence to attack – a superb win!
- Year 3 and 4 netball teams had a long but successful afternoon away in Burgess Hill. Every team passed well, defended confidently, and showed great sportsmanship in every match – Mia scoring a lovely goal to help her team on the way to a win, whilst Phoebe dominated centre court, winning interceptions and passing well.
There’s plenty of sport as always next week, with the addition of both House Tag Rugby and Netball taking place on Monday and Tuesday, and finishing the week with House Cross Country with Years 2-8 on Friday afternoon! đââď¸
