🏉 A round up of the boys’ matches…

  • Rugby wise, the 1sts and 2nds played a trio of games on Wednesday against a small Prebendal team. Pennthorpe mixed their squads to create three teams that at times played some beautiful rugby, the afternoon seeing some surprise combinations work well and Year 7s proving their capabilities against their older classmates. All the boys were combative throughout, offering good distribution from the base of the scrum and tenacity in defence, however a series of quite exceptional textbook tackles from Sam were the highlight of the afternoon. The 3rds were without a fixture this week, instead participating in a multi sports lesson, which Pete fully embraced, getting stuck in and showing great comradery in an increasingly competitive mini match of MurrayBall!
  • More success for Y6 and Colts As as they came out winners of St Edmunds tag rugby tournament! The boys put in a solid shift on the pitch, following the game plan to the letter and emerging undefeated winners of their group. William worked tirelessly in defence to win back the ball, resulting in Pennthorpe beating Boundary Oak 4-1 in the final – a huge well done to the team and Mr Blick for a superb afternoon!
  • U10s A had an excellent game were Charlie set the example for fantastic long passing technique, a inspired pass into the wide channel leading to a brilliantly finished team try.
  • U10s B took part in a triangular match at Westbourne House. The team were brilliant and played amazingly on a massive pitch. Isaac’s tackling levels were top notch and despite the cold, everyone put in excellent effort.
  • On Thursday, both U9 teams faced Aldro at home. As had a tough match against a very physical and strong team, however the boys dug deep and grew into the game, the second half becoming a much more evenly matched battle. Matthew providing some brilliant low tackles to stop Aldro in their tracks and prevent them from scoring. The Bs also showed superb grit and determination in their tackles, with Lachlan being described as an ‘absolute tackling machine!’ The game was a close battle with plenty of trys from both sides. Max got his name on the scoresheet by landing his first ever contact rugby try – huge well done!
  • The U8s travelled away to Duke of Kent for a lovely afternoon of tag rugby. Their progression and understanding of the game really shone through and there were some brilliant passages of play. Quinn ran  well with the ball, making great passes when he was tagged to provide his teammates with some promising opportunities. The boys successfully managed a number of turn overs though great team tag efforts, even managing to string together some passes to get a player through for a free run at the try line. William oozed confidence when making direct runs and pulled off some great last-ditch tags to keep the game level.

🏐 And the girl’s matches:

  • The firsts and seconds travelled to Barrow Hills on Wednesday for a tough few games of netball. Despite height not being to our advantage, the determination and teamwork they showed throughout was superb. Both teams played some of their best netball so far this season and would not give up until the final whistle, building on previous games by passing well down the court and communicating throughout. Lexi took on the role of playmaker for the firsts, battling for every ball and fighting until the end, whilst Tilda showed good skill in the circle, being a positive and supportive team player
  • Colts A visited St Andrews for an U11 netball tournament. The team worked hard all afternoon against some strong opposition, defending well and creating some good opportunities but finding it hard to get the goals needed. Olivia showed excellent creativity with her attacking play, passing well into space and making important interceptions.
  • Colts Bs and Cs remained at home to play a triangular against Copthorne and Barrow Hills, with both teams showing positive developments in their passing and centre court play. Katie and Paige marked their opposition superbly, dictating available movements and staying close to minimise their chances of receiving the ball in a dangerous position. Whilst the teams agreed there was room for improvement with their pace off the ball, once they found their rhythm they were able to string together some passes in quick succession to get the ball into the final third and score some well worked team goals.
  • Year 3 and 4 also faced a triangular on Thursday with Barrow Hills and St Hilary’s visiting. Another encouraging team performance, the girls showed fantastic teamwork and were supportive of one another. Sienna worked hard to find space, offering some strong passes forward, whilst Elodie provided critical interceptions in defence.

House Tag Rugby and House Netball took place on Monday, with House Cross Country (photos below!) having not long finished this afternoon – the results of which I’m afraid you’ll have to wait for…..
