The Pennthorpe Eagles secured the winner’s trophy for the second consecutive time. The match, held on Monday evening, saw the Eagles demonstrate their skill and teamwork, ultimately triumphing with a final score of 10-5.
In quarter one, the game began with Duke of Kent taking an early lead, finishing the first quarter 3-2. Despite their best efforts, the Eagles found themselves trailing by one point at the end of the opening quarter. The second quarter was a turning point for the Eagles, dominating the court whilst preventing Duke of Kent from scoring and adding four points to their tally. The Eagles’ defence was impenetrable, and their offensive plays were executed with precision. By halftime, the Eagles were ahead 6-3.
Both teams fought hard in the third quarter, but the Eagles managed to maintain their lead scoring two more goals while Duke of Kent managed just one. The score at the end of the third quarter was 8-4 in favour of the Eagles. The final quarter saw the Eagles further extend their lead with two additional goals and allowing Duke of Kent just one, the Eagles cemented their victory. The final whistle blew with the score at 10-5.
The Pennthorpe Eagles had a strong turnout of 14 players, who rotated on and off the court throughout the game, showcasing their depth and versatility. The support from Mr Murray, who cheered them on and presented the trophy, added to the celebratory atmosphere.
Post-match, players from both teams enjoyed refreshments and engaging conversations, reflecting the sportsmanship and camaraderie that netball fosters. The Eagles and Duke of Kent will cross paths again on the 14th of June for a mini-tournament, which will also feature teams from Longacre and Park Mead Mums’ netball clubs.
Looking ahead, the Pennthorpe Eagles are also set to play against the Pennthorpe Teachers on Monday, 10th June. The team is eager to continue their winning streak and demonstrate their prowess on the court once more.
