The much-anticipated netball clash between the Pennthorpe Eagles (parents) and the Pennthorpe Teachers took place on Monday evening in the Sports Hall, drawing enthusiastic support from the community. The teachers emerged victorious with a commanding 21-9 win, showcasing their skills and teamwork.
Quarter Breakdown:
- Q1: Pennthorpe Eagles 5 – 5 Pennthorpe Teachers
- Q2: Pennthorpe Eagles 0 – 8 Pennthorpe Teachers (Miss Cooper’s standout quarter)
- Q3: Pennthorpe Eagles 2 – 4 Pennthorpe Teachers
- Q4: Pennthorpe Eagles 2 – 4 Pennthorpe Teachers
The match began evenly, with both teams displaying determination and energy. The first quarter ended in a 5-5 tie, setting the stage for an exciting contest. However, the teachers took full control in the second quarter; largely thanks to Miss Cooper’s exceptional shooting skills. Her precise and consistent shots helped the teachers dominate this period, with the Eagles unable to score.
In the third and fourth quarters, the teachers continued to extend their lead, with Miss Page and Mr Barnett orchestrating some excellent plays into the D. Mr Barnett’s ability to intercept and play stray balls down the court proved crucial, while Mrs Voss and Mrs Weatherly were formidable in defence, making it difficult for the Eagles to find scoring opportunities.
Mr Murray had a memorable game as well, quickly adapting to the rules of netball, such as ‘over a third’ and ‘obstruction’, despite some initial challenges.
Despite the score line, the Pennthorpe Eagles demonstrated great teamwork and had several promising plays into the D and off the centre pass. They showed resilience and determination throughout the match, although it wasn’t their night. The Eagles are already looking forward to a rematch, eager to challenge the teachers again in the future.
The evening concluded with both teams heading to The Fox for some much-needed refreshments and a friendly debrief of the match, celebrating the spirit of community and sportsmanship that made the event a success.
It was a fantastic performance by the teachers, showcasing their skill and strategy. The Pennthorpe Eagles also deserve commendation for their spirited play and teamwork. Both teams contributed to a memorable and enjoyable evening of netball.
