On Monday 23rd September, Pennthorpe Eagles hosted Longacre in an intense and fast-paced netball match under the evening lights at Pennthorpe. With a team of 11, Pennthorpe Eagles came out victorious in a closely fought contest, securing an 18-14 win.
The match started off with Longacre taking control, finishing the first quarter ahead, with the score at 3-1. However, Pennthorpe Eagles quickly found their rhythm in the second quarter, battling back to even things up finishing the second quarter 6-6. Both teams showed tremendous passion and determination, making it a highly competitive first half, which ended 9-7 to Longacre.
The third quarter saw Pennthorpe Eagles step up defensively, holding Longacre scoreless while adding four points of their own, bringing the score to 9-11 to Pennthorpe. This impressive display of teamwork and energy from our home side gave them a crucial lead heading into the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Longacre fought hard to close the gap, but Pennthorpe Eagles held strong, outscoring their opponents 7-5 in the final minutes to seal an 18-14 victory. Both teams demonstrated great sportsmanship throughout the match, and the high energy on the court was matched by a sense of camaraderie after the final whistle.
The players thanked each other with a traditional “hip-hip-hooray”, before gathering for a group photo and enjoying refreshments together. It was a fantastic evening of netball, and both teams are already looking forward to the rematch at Longacre on 14th October.
