The adventure began for our Year 6 students in the parade ring, where they measured the space to see how many horses could safely fit inside. They quickly learned how crucial space and capacity are for ensuring safety.

Next, the children examined the weights that jockeys carry and discussed how these affect horse performance. Understanding that every ounce counts highlighted the importance of balance in racing.

Wearing their racing silks and in front of the early spectators, students got to race down the Goodwood racetrack, learning how the age and gender of a horse is used to create a level playing field.

Finally, they watched the first race, applying their newfound knowledge and cheering for their favourite horse. The trip was a fantastic blend of education and excitement, leaving students with lasting memories and a deeper appreciation for the sport and the maths that goes into making it safe, fair and enjoyable.
