On Friday 20th September, Duke of Kent School played host to a vibrant charity netball tournament, bringing together local communities to raise funds for Sarcoma UK. After days of rain and thunderstorms, the skies cleared just in time, gifting players and spectators with a beautiful evening of friendly competition under the sun.
Five teams of netball-loving mums from the local area took part in the tournament, each eager to support the cause. Representing the schools were Duke of Kent’s 1st and 2nd teams, alongside teams from Pennthorpe, Longacre and St Cuthbert Mayne. The competition was structured so that each team played four 16-minute matches—split into two halves of 8 minutes each.

The afternoon wasn’t just about the competition. Duke of Kent School were fantastic hosts, ensuring everyone enjoyed the occasion with a lovely spread of sandwiches and cake, appreciated by both the players and spectators. The atmosphere was made even more special with a vocal group of Pennthorpe supporters, with dads and children cheering their team on from the sidelines.
This tournament was a shining example of how sport can unite communities and make a difference for such an important cause. With funds raised for Sarcoma UK, all the players, supporters, and organisers can all be proud of the afternoon’s efforts. We look forward to seeing more events like this in the future, where fun, community spirit, and charity all come together for a good cause.
