The Year 5 children played “a pen and a die”, competing in writing the French translation of an English text, based on the topic of likes/dislikes currently taught.
Player A uses the pen and resources to write out the translation while player B rolls the dice until they obtain a 6 resulting in stealing the pen from player A to complete their own translation while player A tries to roll a 6. All in all, it is a very simple and enjoyable activity which gives a twist to a pretty mundane writing task. All you need is dice and some pretty motivated students!
