As part of their learning on rocks, Mr Shaw and Mr Price helped Year 3 learn a bit more about magma, igneous rock and lava. The children conducted two experiments where they recreated a volcanic eruption!
In a beaker, the children had a layer of wax, sand and water to represent a volcano under water. Once heated up, the wax broke free from the sand and came up to the surface, hardening and creating an ‘igneous rock’.
In another beaker, they mixed vinegar, food colouring and baking soda to create a volcanic eruption… What a Magma Extravaganza!
The children absolutely loved these experiments – especially wearing the lab coats and the safety goggles!
