Whilst there were no fixtures this week, preparations began and training is under way for the new seasons. All the pupils seem very keen to start their different sports, even though the weather was not in our favour. Despite the wind and rain, the boys did manage to get in their first taste of just how muddy they’ll be getting; apologies in advance for the state of games kits coming home in the next few weeks! The girls are off to a flying start in netball, locking down that footwork and practising those roll outs in what looks to be a very competitive season – may the games begin!

Speaking of games, Years 3 & 4 had the privilege of participating in the inaugural round of the now classic sport of ‘MurrayBall™’. Created by our own headmaster, MurrayBall™ is a game of speed, reflexes and reactions where it is each for their own and only the wiliest survive. Several highly competitive games have now taken place throughout the week as a result of the poor weather, and it is safe to say that MurrayBall™ is now a firm Pennthorpe favourite; perhaps a new addition to the house competitions?

Friday morning saw our sports scholars put through their paces when Susie Johnson of Surrey Fitness Group came in to lead their session. There were battle ropes, medicine balls and even the boxing gloves came out for what was a highly enjoyable (if exhausting session!). The session worked on core strength, power, with some sprints thrown in for good measure. A huge thank you to Susie for giving up her time to help our pupils.
