🏉 A round up of the boys’ matches…

  • 1sts and 2nds rugby teams faced some physical and athletic opposition in both Cranleigh and Brambletye; despite starting nervously, they stepped up to the challenge, showing good handling skills in tricky conditions. Caleb engaged in some strong tackles against his larger counterparts, scoring some excellently finished trys. Against both teams, the boys tackled their hearts out and can hold their heads up high and say they gave their very best in what was, for the majority of the 1st team, their last ever game of rugby in a Pennthorpe shirt. Special mention to Marcus, who has shown incredible progress in such a short space of time.
  • U10s and U11s travelled away to Micklefield, where they contested some close games. The U11s put on a performance to be proud of, demonstrating how far they had come in confidence and technique since the start of the season. A great display of low tackling, quick rucking and excellent line speed saw Pennthorpe emerge victorious, with Arthur putting in some superbly timed strong challenges to halt the Micklefield attack.
  • The U10s played four quarters in mixed teams for their last game of the season which again, was an excellent team display all over the field. Harry gave the squad forward momentum with his hard tackles, allowing his teammates to make some cheeky steals at the ruck and opportunities for break away trys. The boys passed and offloaded brilliantly, with Faheem displaying outstanding determination and strength in his runs.

🏐 And the girl’s matches:

  • The 1sts netball team went out and finished on a high for the final game of their season. A combination of superb interceptions from defence and quick successive passes from attack lead them to another convincing win. Yet again, Rosie gave an outstanding effort, supporting and encouraging her team whilst commanding the defence and ensuring there was no way through for St Edmunds. The team have had a brilliant string of games the season, having only been defeated once – a huge well done!
  • The 2nds gave a performance not reflective of the scoreline, as all the intricacies from training fell in to place. Their movement off the ball, timing of interceptions and vocal demeanours showed their progression over the season, as everyone put in an encouraging and enthusiastic shift. Bella kept the team morale at an all time high with her positive, energetic spirits that ensured that although the result wasn’t in our favour, the team could be proud of what they gave.
  • Colts A dug deep and played some solid netball to get the win over St Edmunds. Their understanding of the importance of timing their runs shone through, with some excellent passages of quick fire passing giving them the edge to get passed their opposition. Summer contributed important interceptions that allowed Pennthorpe to switch the direction of play and catch St Edmunds off guard, getting the ball to her shooting teammates quickly with minimal turn over of possession.
  • Colts Bs and Cs both gave valiant efforts, working well together and defending fiercely. They were able to move the ball well down the court but struggled when it came to shooting against a confident opposition. Lily made bold interceptions to regain possession, whilst Freya created considered, clever spaces to drive Pennthorpe attacks forward.
  • Colts D also faced a determined St Edmunds team that dominated the court, giving the girls little opportunity to really get into the game; however when given the chance, Pennthorpe were able to move the ball well. Annabelle played strong passes to her teammates as well as finding space to receive the ball.

Another successful season of sports at Pennthorpe – after half term we see the boys move on to hockey, whilst the girls make the switch to football, so please make sure that the required kit is in school straight after the break!
