🏑A round up of the boys’ matches:

  • It was turn for the 1sts and 3rds to travel to Hurst, where unfortunately both teams came out on the wrong side of the score line. The 1sts had a tight-knit battle that went down to the wire, Hurst doing just enough to maintain the one-goal margin to take the win. Sam gave a valiant performance in goal, throwing himself at every shot that came his way and more often than not putting off some brilliant saves, whilst Osman bagged himself a brace with two beautifully taken goals to keep Pennthorpe well and truly in the game.
  • The 3rds contested a slightly less even scoreline, which despite being well matched in terms of skill, was ultimately won on Hursts’ athleticism and strong backline. Hugo worked tirelessly and showed superb stick skills to try and produce Pennthorpe attacks, keeping the team believing until the final whistle.
  • 2nds and 4ths hosted Hurst at home, where the 4ths dug deep to fight their way back into their game after conceding a few early goals. They applied the tactics practised in training, resulting in a gutsy comeback that had them inches from reclaiming victory. Zhenya, despite having little experience in the position, stepped up to play in goal and did a superb job, pulling off some fantastic saves to keep the scoreline down.
  •  2nds faced a strong, well organised opposition, which they struggled to match for pace and technique despite showing moments of great game play and consistent desire to get back into the game. Ethan was quick to press every drive Hurst made, whilst also scoring a fantastically worked penalty shuffle.
  • Colts Bs and Cs faced Micklefield at home this week in two very tightly contested games. As were slow off the mark, which allowed Micklefield to earn a comfortable 5 goal cushion before half time. Pennthorpe, however, responded well to coaching points given at the break and came back out with intent, getting their sticks down to defend and passing with purpose and power to prevent any further goals to be conceded, whilst managing to score a trio of goals themselves. Lukey maintained his position well throughout, defending with courage and determination.
  • Ben gave an outstanding attacking performance for the Cs, leading his team to victory in a fast paced, end-to-end game. Both teams battled well, but Pennthorpe showed how important it is to use the width and pass the ball well.
  • Both Y3 teams had brilliant games on Thursday, displaying some much-improved skills and teamwork. Kit showed confidence in possession, making some bold runs and playing excellent roll outs, whilst Bryn was full of fight and determination, getting himself a well-earned goal.

âš˝ And the girls’ matches:

  • In the football, 1sts and 2nds travelled to Great Ballard to play a triangular. 1sts defeated both teams convincingly, ending their season undefeated and with 4/4 clean sheets. Lexi, with her creative attacking prowess, scoring a gloriously finished goal as her reward. The 2nds also fought the good fight, showing just how far their skill levels and confidence have come in such a short space of time. Despite taking a painful knock in the first half, Maddie was determined to power through and see out the final game of the season.
  • With Year 6 away, it left the Year 5s to fight it out at Longacre football festival on Wednesday in what turned out to be a brilliant afternoon of football. The teams adapted well to the small, slippery playing surface and fun-sized goals with enthusiasm and vigour, Jemima showing good ball skills and decision making under pressure. Morgan was solid as a rock in defence, closing down any and every hint of attack that threatened the Pennthorpe goal. The girls even caught the eye of one of the Longacre staff, who praised their positive mentalities and supportive game play – setting the standard for playing the game in the right spirits. A huge well done!
  • It was then time for Y3 to have their turn at Thursday’s festival, for another afternoon of football and smiles! Everyone worked hard as a team, putting in strong challenges and showing off some good footwork. Milla earned the coveted ‘Longacre Bear’ after garnering two player of the match awards for her relentless and unwavering enthusiasm, whilst Ella P was the definition of ‘here, there and everywhere’, showing determination and drive throughout the afternoon.

🏌️ This week also held host to the annual House Golf competition at the Slinfold 9-hole course. Pupils were playing individually, but competing for their house – top two scores from each counting. Whilst the winning house will be announced in the celebration huddle, Eli scored a very impressive 27 (1 under par) for her round, securing the top spot for the day. Hector finished in 2nd place, closely followed by Tristan and Atilla in joint 3rd. Great fun was had by all, and hopefully will act as inspiration for more pupils to take up golf! A big thank you to Mr Whiteside and AJW for sponsoring the golf balls used.

After the Easter break, we move on to cricket and athletics, where no doubt more success stories shall follow!
