🏏 A round up of the cricket matches:

  • The 1st XI kicked off the season with a bang, showcasing their prowess on the field from the get-go. Captain Henry led by example with a stellar bowling performance, claiming three wickets and a crucial run-out to assert our dominance. With the bat, our team started strong, displaying flair and elegance as they accumulated runs with ease. Despite our determined start, the opposition’s bowlers proved to be a formidable challenge, especially towards the latter stages of our innings. While our middle order fought valiantly, they fell agonizingly short by just a couple of runs. It was a testament to the exceptional quality of cricket on display from both sides.
  • The 2nd XI secured a hard-fought victory in a closely contested match. Despite conceding some extra runs through wides and no balls, our batters launched a thrilling counterattack led by a superb performance from Tristan, who scored 31 off 34 balls.
  • 3rd XI continued the win streak with a resounding team performance that earned them a convincing victory. Zahira’s exceptional bowling set the standard for the team to follow up with some equally impressive batting.
  • Yet another game of narrow margins for the 4th XI that was ultimately decided by wickets taken. Beau displayed commendable skills with both bat and ball as Pennthorpe delivered some testing bowls and hit with purpose but couldn’t quite close the lead that Lancing had accumulated.
  • 5ths came out strong with the bat against an evenly matched Hurst team, who pipped them to the post with their pacy, accurate bowling. Atilla made a superb catch to deny Hurst an extension to their lead, whilst also causing them some problems with his own pinpoint bowls.
  • Colts A set the stage with disciplined battling against some powerful bowls, the lower order finishing well to give us the upper hand. With the ball, the team bowled consistently and with good length, keeping the balance in our favour and ensuring Pennthorpe finished the game 53 runs ahead. Despite some pre-match nerves, Harry B overcame his worries to deliver a superb debut hardball performance.
  • Colts B and C both faced Longacre at home, Bs coming out with a win whilst Cs fell just short of some decisive batting.
  • A competitive game of cage cricket kickstarted the Colts Ds fixtures, with Pennthorpe fielding well, earning three wickets in the 2nd over of the final pair, which proved vital in earning them the win. Sammy showed superb resilience and determination when trying to lock down his bowling technique, whilst also batting brilliantly to hit three sixes to contribute to his pairs run total of 38.
  • Meanwhile, Colts E and F teams faced a race against the rain during their away matches, but their determination and sportsmanship shone through. The Es demonstrated confident fielding and steady batting, with Sophie’s stunning sixes earning them a deserved win.
  • An inspired victory for the Colts F team saw them start their season with a resounding victory over local rivals Longacre. After a tight fielding performance, Pennthorpe then built a steady innings with a firework finish. A six off the back foot from Morgan proved to be crucial in a tight affair.
  • Thursday brought more closely contested matches, with our A team delivering a phenomenal performance. Their resilience and determination were unmatched, with bowling improving with each delivery and fielding executed with precision. Edward and Timmy’s heroic partnership in the final moments clinched the victory, with Edward’s boundary-hitting prowess sealing the deal in style. Y3/4 Bs emerged victorious in their game, with every member of the team contributing their all. Archie gave an outstanding bowling performance, unleashing a barrage of deliveries that left the opposition struggling to score.
  • Y3/4 Cs stole the glory right out of Duke of Kent’s hands in a nail-biting match that went right to the final wicket, largely in part to Elise’s superb bowling of two overs delivered pace and precision that the opposition struggled to deal with. Kit’s two crucial catches played a pivotal role in keeping the Year 3/4 Ds in the match as Lacing threatened to run away with their lead. Fielding and bowling developed as the team grew into the game, showing great promise for future fixtures.
  • Bowling, batting, and running between the stumps are all fundamental aspects of the game, and it’s clear that our young cricketers have a solid grasp of them all, as so well displayed in the Y3/4 Es game. Daniel excelled in both batting and bowling disciplines, his contributions swaying the game in Pennthorpe’s favour and seeing them across the finish line as winners. Y3/4 Fs gave a tenacious and commendable performance with a lovely introduction to pairs cricket for the team; Michael showing his enthusiasm and technical ability with his bowling to limit Lancing’s run opportunities.

With the forecast looking up for next week, we have plenty more cricket to look forward to, as well as athletics tournaments and Sports Day heats thrown into the mixer!
