Whilst the rain held off this week, instead we were faced with some rather cold weather, but that didn’t stop the students putting in some great performances for their respective matches.
đ A round up of the boysâ matchesâŚ
- The 1sts XI came out victorious after a close game that went all the way to the final play to earn the deciding points. Tackling this week was a distinct improvement, with Sam F in particular replicating what was learnt in training on the pitch whilst also getting himself on the scoresheet with a beautifully finished try.
- 2nd XIs also had a closely contended game in which the team fought hard in the rucks and scored some excellent team try’s. Will C captained the team superbly, unselfishly passing the ball to allow his teammates to score as well.
- Due to illness and injury this week, the U11s weren’t able to field a full team; however those available joined forces with Barrow Hills players to ensure that everyone got a game regardless. The game was played in the right spirit and allowed both teams to work with and compete against a different challenge!
- Both U10s travelled away to Barrow Hills, where the As committed themselves to each and every breakaway run, offloaded well and tackled hard. Cameron showed excellent determination, keeping low in the contact and making some great challenges. The Bs came away with a convincing win that showed their development since the last fixture, with both Joe and Stanley giving fantastic performances in all game aspects.
- Sam provided some excellent tackles in the U9 contact game, ensuring opposition were bought to ground with his challenges. Despite the cold both teams supported and worked together for energetic matches that had some brilliant rugby on display. Both U8/9s tag rugby teams showed encouraging progress in working as a team of players rather than individuals for an afternoon filled with tagging, tries and plenty of running! Oscar made some perfectly timed tags to help his team defend their try line, whilst Oliver showed unwavering enthusiasm, making some confident runs and getting stuck in to the game.
đ And the girlâs matches:
- There was plenty of success across the netball fixtures this week too, as both 1st and 2nds played fixtures against Duke of Kent and Belmont. Again, changes had to be made due to illness but the girls didn’t let this faze them and they grouped together to play some great games. 1sts gave a great display in both attack and defence, Rosie remaining resilient against some physical opposition and the team offering good movement in the D to create plenty of shooting opportunities.
- The 2nds improved tenfold from their game last week, giving much better movement off the ball and constantly encouraging each other. Bella bought the team spirit as she urged her teammates on, making strong drives into space and scoring plenty of goals.
- Colts A had a solid win over their opponents, highlighting their rapid improvement and how well they are settling into netball. The team all put in an excellent shift, working brilliantly as a team and creating strong attacks. Aurelie ran the game with some superb centre court play.
- Colts B played both the U11 and U10 teams, putting up a valiant battle against both. Summer contributed well to some lovely strings of passes, offering great drives into space and encouraging throughout.
- The Year 5s also showed how their game had developed from last week, communicating when finding space and responding quickly to opposition defence. Charlotte got herself a well-earned goal for all her hard work put into the game.
- The Year 3 & 4 girls faced Duke of Kent on Thursday, and yet again the development was evident in their attack and defensive strategies, showcasing some great passing and teamwork. Phoebe was non-stop around the court, scoring some top goals and bringing the team together, whilst Milla showed great confidence in her game play.
Whilst fixtures are on hold until next half term, there’s still plenty of sports action before we break up for Christmas! Currently a combined Y6/7 team are down in Bristol for IAPS Hockey tournament – we can’t wait to hear how they get on! A huge thank you to Mrs Page for organising participation in the tournament and leading the team, as well as to Mrs Murray for stepping up and joining her!
The buzz of the school is definitely for the inaugural house MurrayBall competitions on Monday and Tuesday; if you don’t know what MurrayBall is yet – you soon will….
