The girls went to Brighton as Hurst hosted their athletics event at Withdean Sports Complex. 20 girls from Years 4-8 competed in the sunshine at a very competitive and busy athletics meet. It was a great day and it stayed dry which was amazing considering the recent down pours! All the girls were amazing ambassadors for Pennthorpe and shown great determination and fight in all activities. There where smiles all round and a lot of the girls had their first experience of athletics on a real track which is something they will never forget.
The only boys fixture to go ahead was the U11Bs and they were up against Cranleigh Prep. Cranleigh won the toss and chose to bowl. There was some good batting on display with Hayden showing good intent with the bat and scoring quickly against a very good bowling attack. There also some good displays with the ball and in the field. Cranleigh had a good batting attack but with bowling from Pennthorpe it was a close finish with Will bowling a consistent line and length with getting a wicket but falling just short in the end.
The girls colts team both played Duke of Kent up on our Astro. Both games were very close matches with some great fielding to stop the runs and some great batting as well with Tilda and Holly standing out.
On Friday, it was the turn of the boys to compete in the annual athletics event at Hurst. The weather was not favourable for athletics and huge credit to the boys who got their heads down and competed hard given the conditions. The stand of athletics is always incredibly high at this event and congratulations to Will P who ran a very strong 800m and finish 3rd. Special mentions to Jack for his 1500m, Sam F for throwing the discus for the first time and Samuel W and Tristan who ran back to back 4 x 100m relays! Ambition from all athletes was on show throughout the afternoon.
