šŸ To start the week, Pennthorpe scored a victory against Dorset House in the 2nd round of the County Cricket Cup. Click here to read Vice Captain Freddie’s match report!

šŸŽ¾ A group of Year 6-8 students also went over to Belmont for an afternoon of tennis, it was great fun to play something different and the children progressed loads as the matches went on – there where even a few aces thrown in for good measure.

ā˜€ļø On Wednesday & Thursday, the sun was out again to make great afternoons for cricket. A round up of the matches:

  • The U13As went to Copthorne. After winning the toss, Pennthorpe chose to bat and were 7-3. Johnny (41) and Freddie (37) got us up to a respectable total and some strong running between James and Harley allowed us to get to 125. Henry was the pick of the bowlers with 2-20 including bolwing out the best batsman on the opposition. Pennthorpe fielding well and eventually wrapped up the innings, winning by 31 runs.
  • The U13Bs were also at Copthorne where they had a soft ball pairs game. Both Copthorne and Pennthorpe had a good game but it was Copthorpe which came out on top.
  • The U13Cs also travelled away to Copthorne, having a great game of pairs cricket from both sides, with great batting and bowling from everyone in the team.
  • The Mixed Colts As were down at King Georgeā€™s to playing Copthorne. Pennthorpe started off well to get Copthorne 15 for 4 but a strong partnership and some wides of the Pennthorpe bowling attack got the score up to a competitive total. Pennthorpe had a close run chase but unfortunately fell short.
  • The Girls Colts A went to Farlington for a pairs game. Again it was a very close game with Farlington winning the game by 19 runs but the effort showed by the girls was outstanding.
  • The Mixed Colts Bs were at home against Copthorne. Having won the toss Pennthorpe decided to bowl first. Some excellent bowling and wicket from the start from Will and Zahira set the pace which Copthorne were 16 for 2. As the overs ticked over Copthorne had a couple of partnerships during their innings but wickets from Romilly and Felix made Copthorne set a total of 88. Then Pennthorpe batted well, with Hugo and Will having a strong start. The batting was superb from Pennthorpe chased Copthorne down with 3 overs to spare and Will not out at the end of the innings.
  • Both Mixed Colts C and D were at home on the Astro, with both games being really close with Colts C winning their game and Colts D coming up short.
  • All the U8/9s all had close games against Copthorne home and away. There were some good batting and bowling on display throughout the matches being played and was a great afternoon of matches with wins away and at home well done everyone!!!

Finally, Friday is one of the biggest events in the sporting calender hosted here at Pennthorpe – Sports Day! The sun is shining, letā€™s have a great day. (Come on Gaskyns!!)
