☀️ On Friday 26th May, Pennthorpe hosted its annual Sports Day full of colour, energy and commitment from the children. The day overall was won by Pallinghurst and the full results can be found here along with the new school record holders.

🏏 A round-up for the cricket matches this week:

  • The mixed U11/12s girl’s fixture was against Dorset House. We batted first and steadily scored runs. Some powerful striking from Eli and Rosie along with quick singles form Saskia and Romilly got us up to a respectable total. We only lost 3 wickets. All the girls bowled straight and attacked the ball in the field. We kept the runs down and took 8 wickets.
  • The U11As also played Dorset House. Much improved bowling from everyone. Straight arms, straight bowls with good length from everyone involved. Also, with a great batting performance, this resulted in Pennthorpe scoring 190 runs and Dorset House scoring 153.
  • The U11Bs again were up against Dorset House, another strong batting and bowling performance from Pennthorpe, Pennthorpe scored 199 and Dorset House called 134.
  • The U12 boys had a hard ball game against Cottesmore up on the top fields. Cottesmore batted first and scored 149 with 9 wickets taken. Then it was a really good run chase by Pennthorpe which got it close with Freddie scoring 59 not out but Pennthorpe came up just short.
  • The U11As went to Cottesmore for their match. There were some good bowling from Sam and Will but unfortunately came up short with the bat against a good bowling attack from Cottesmore.
  • The U11Bs were down at King George’s playing fields against Cottesmore. Pennthorpe batted first and scored 77 with some good attacking batting by Felix, Callum and Will. With 2 early wickets from Arthur and Hugo, Cottesmore regrouped and chased the total down in 14 overs.
  • The U11 Cs and Ds both had good games against Cottesmore with both teams coming up just short, put in a good performance with some accurate bowling and strong hitting. A high scoring game from both sides!

👟 Finally, we hosted Farlington on Thursday for a sunny afternoon of athletics. The inclusive event gave all the U8/9 children a chance to practice a multitude of different activities, before culminating in a huge relay race. It was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon with a lot of happy children.
