The résistance returns to Pennthorpe

Last Saturday pupils who showed an interest in History and French, came into school to take part in a French Resistance based scavenger hunt.

Pupils had to solve clues in French, which would them give them a location where more information about a Nazi attack would be revealed to them. They learnt about Operation Felix and Operation Sea Lion, two real invasions of Spain and Great Britain (respectively), planned by the Nazi’s during WW2.

Clues included overheard conversations, intercepted telegrams, questioning witnesses and messages from double agents.

Everyone had a great time and Mr Franklin is pleased to report each group managed to save the day on both occasions!

I was so glad I went to the French and Humanities Engagement Session. It was so fun trying to decode the clues in French and trying to find them. It was also very interesting learning about the Nazi attempted invasion of Gibraltar and Operation Felix and Sealion. I would definitely go again. Henry, Year 8
