Pennthorpe’s mantra, “born not for ourselves alone,” has found a shining example in Year 8 student Jacob, who took on the incredible challenge of running 100 kilometres in September to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity (GOSH Charity). Inspired by the school’s commitment to thinking of others and making a positive impact, Jacob dedicated his efforts to support a cause that touches the lives of so many.
Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) is known for its unwavering dedication to children and young people facing serious health challenges. Every day, around 750 patients from all over the UK come to GOSH for life-changing treatment and care. The hospital’s staff—doctors, nurses, and researchers—work tirelessly to combat complex illnesses and pioneer medical breakthroughs. However, the hospital’s vital work relies heavily on charitable support, which is where Jacob’s fundraising comes into play.
With every kilometre he completed, Jacob raised funds that will directly support GOSH’s mission to provide life-saving care and treatment.
At Pennthorpe, all children are encouraged to think beyond themselves, and Jacob’s initiative embodies this spirit perfectly. The completion of his challenge is a powerful example of how our pupils live out the school’s values, putting others first and contributing to meaningful causes.
Jacob’s determination and compassion inspired many within the Pennthorpe community and beyond. Jacob raised an incredible £725 and received lots of support from his Pennthorpe friends! Huge congratulations to Jacob for his fantastic achievement and thank you to our community for your support towards this incredible cause. Should you feel able to donate to support Jacob’s quest, the donation page is still active and can be found here.
